Jack:
I'm finishing up a build of a Cleveland for my P-car. I currently have the brass restrictor ring in this block. I have a new Weiand aluminum water pump. I would prefer to have the initial warm-up circuit, then complete shut-off, but I guess that's out due to the new water pump. Given that, what should I do as to t-stat:
(1) Remove the restrictor ring
(2) Replace the restrictor ring with PPC unit allowing some recirc with ______ t-stat
(3) Keep the restrictor ring, and use ______ t-stat.
TIA,
Lee Parker

With the Weiand water pump, you may run any thermostat your heart desires, with no mods required. Of course, you'll probably find, as I did, that the rating of the thermostat means Zilch as far as what temperature your motor maintains. Going to 'vegas this year, I ran a 193 thermostat & the car ran at 190. In 'Vegas, I changed to a 160 thermostat. The car ran all the way home at 190....
