My mechanical fuel pump is making funny noises and a replacement is required. I know many will suggest I install an electric pump but that is not a change I want to pursue. What is my option for a topic grade replacement. Thanks, Bruce

IMO you can't beat the RobbMc pump, expensive but you'll only buy it once! https://www.robbmcperformance....roducts/ford550.html
The McRobb pump is great, but the pump body is a little bigger around, and can have a SLIGHT interference with your oil filter.
Just a minor thing to be aware of…

I have one on my car and works great. Definitely larger than stock.
He recommends using a smaller oil filter Motorcraft FL-400S to help reduce interference.

FWIW, I agree. I installed a Carter fuel pump in 2001. It cost $12 at the time and is still going strong...
I highly recommend to put studs in the block…. It really really makes mounting the fuel pump so much easier!
Unfortunately there are two possibilities when the pump fails. The pump is usually the culpret but it could also be the eccentric internally is broken.
Good call, Doug! The early stamped eccentric (71-72) attached to the cam nose is two-piece and can make noise if you have sensitive ears and a quiet exhaust. For '73-up, Ford apparently used the 351-W machined one-piece eccentric. Much more substantial part & works the same.
Yeah, no more Holey available for years. Due to sitting longer than I usually do (this time over a month), my Holey dried out. My mechanic recommended Carter M6882 rather than McRobb since I am under 600HP. Strapped it in and works excellent & real nice pressure. Shows me I got to drive the piss out a the car regular or it rebels. Either that or sell it to a someone else.
