The carb mounting pad height is normally quoted as an A/B measurement
The A measurement of the Strip Dominator is 0.8" higher.
The B measurement of the Strip Dominator is 1.00" higher.
Using the (A+B)/2 formula, the Edelbrock's pad height is 3.94", the Holley's pad height is 4.84"
Round it off to an inch difference.
FYI for the newer owners, its easier to keep the air filter below the engine screen with the "L" screen, because it has the raised center section. The carburetors on the '73 - '74 engines sat 5/8" higher than the '71 - '72 engines because of the egr plate sandwiched between the carb & intake manifold.
Some of the common solutions for dealing with a higher carburetor are: (1) use a Holley with the choke milled off with either a narrow filter element or a dropped air filter base from a late '60s big block Corvette.(2) The second solution is the dog bone style air filter. (3) The third solution is to remove the engine screen and use an oval air filter turned sideways.
I like the “Using the (A+B)/2 formula " part the best.. How can you go wrong with type of information I agree Mark,, George is a cornucopia of information, must be experience
