Yes it goes into the small grommet hole in the side of the evaporator box, as long as it goes in far enough to measure air temp through the evaporator. There is normally two to three coils of tube tucked up under the dash.

Well thats answered my question, thank you very much.
Can I tax your brain further please, the 2 cables going to my old switch are heavy blue and Black, these are not on the wiring diagram one should be Black/white, but I can't seem to trace it, any help always appreciated.

There is some nice information in there and multiple wiring diagrams.
Generally, one wire comes via a fuse via the ignition switch accessory position. The other wire will go to the AC clutch / condenser fan relays. You can pull fuses to find out which one goes to your switch.
