when did panteras loose their arches

im restoring 9189 and it is now in to paint. during this part of the resto it was necessary to remove the gt arches which will be refitted but not the running boards. it then occured to me that my car is somewhat slab sided, there are no eye brows over the arches. most all other cars i have seen have the steel eye brows, when did this change ?
DeTomaso cut the small flared arches from the fenders of the GT5's because they would have interfered with the wider tires.
thanks for that i always thought that the gt5 arches were just riveted on over the standard steel arch i never knew they took the time to dress the metal first.

That is how the GTS cars are done I think, the fiberglass flare just riveted over the existing fender.
All the factory GT5 flares I’ve seen are shaped to fit into the running boards.

i thought that also but the curve over the top of the fender on my car is gone, the edge is dressed back to form the lip. so the fender is cut back first so as to be able to fit larger wheels and then the fiberglass fender is rivited on.
i have the running boards for my car but im not going to fit them.

Wow.. 9189 has come a long way since it was abandend in a parking lot and you got it for free! I just wanted to make sure some new members knew the deal. I remember when I was painting my car ..I compared my part pile to the one in your bathroom.! .LOL I have been distracted from this site for a while but am sure glad to see the progress. I'm going to the photo page because I'm sure you have more details. How do you plan to attach the flares? Were they black with rivets showing?

yes i will be refitting the arches, remember the eyebrows over the arches are removed when the arches are fitted so not refitting them is not an option. but i shall not be fitting the running boards
