Dang. Yes the car was impresive but the guy driving was even more impressive. He gave up nothing to those "sports cars" in the corners. I always thought an FE 427 side oiler with dual quads and taller gearing would transform a Pantera into a 200 MPH supercar. But then again, I am probably a fool.
Sounds great ... not too much rpm .. I love those FE motors. Actually Detom .. I used to race a 428CJ and drag racing I tried everything from 5:13 to 3:73 ... in the 1/4 mile the car made eough HP and torque that 4:56's shifting at 6400 rpm ..the car ran at its peak. So in a P car actually the 4:11 with a speed might be perfect.

"Briskley" Big Grin
Yes, still have it. Tucked away in Portland right now in anticipation of relocating.

1st gear launch past 4500 rpm you risk a quick spin if not ready for it. You can feather out of it and the car comes in line.
Anything past 3/4 throttle on the 1-2 shift you risk the back end drifting out quicker than you can compensate for and could easily lose it.
2-3 can be a full throttle shift, but the rear will drift out if tires aren't warm.
3-4 full throttle gets a wiggle, but car is stable.
About 5,500 in 4th I'd run out of road so 5th gear and light thottle.
Only had it to 140, roads in ID are too rough to trust above that.
This all with twin 650's, previous owner rand dual 750's on the track.
I'd call the 650's the "street tune".
750's are what pulled the 485 hp on dyno sheets.
Still unsure of gears, but even with 485 to the wheels I think it would come up just shy of 200mph?
That was the reasoning behind the 225 shot of nitros that was installed, but used only 1 time.
He pulled in and shut the bottle off. roll on floor
No, I've never been tempted to hit the bottle, car's a blast just the way it is for the driving I do with it. Don't care to knock a hole in the block either. Just not a big fan of nitros.
Wow! It is even better than I imagined. Your car is capable of 200 MPH, but you would have to find a place where you could do that. Given the stock 4:33 to one rear end and fith gear and standard diameter tires, you would hit 200 MPH at 7500 rpm. You would need to hit the nitro at about 5000 rpm in 5th to get it up to redline in a short time period, but you would not want to stay there for long. Just because a car is capable of that speed in no way means it is safe at that speed.
I am glad you were able to keep your car during your recent period of hardship. I lost my job last week and have my car on the market too. I hope I will do as well as you.
Take care Bronco and may God bless. Smiler
