Chromed Plastic

There are several processes for plating plastic. I think your best option would be to locate an electro-plater who can do plastic. Try looking for a source in the yellow pages(larger cities are more likely prospects), Hemmings Motor News, or on the internet. I'll warn you in advance there aren't a lot of shops who plate plastic, it doesn't always hold up well, and it's not cheap. In most cases a new(or good used) replacement, will be cheaper than re-plating. Good luck...Al English

As Al said, it ain't cheap nor common. But if its a rare/expensive thingy you want to (re) plate, you CAN do it yourself, with decent results. You first need to become familar with plating terms and in handling chemicals. There are two processes that will work in a home garage without electricity: electro-less nickel, and silver mirroring. Both rely on a decomposition of water-soluble chemicals to precipitate a shiny base metal onto any surface. A low- temp 'cure' in Mom's oven followed by a protective clear-coat spray completes the process with no polishing required.
