Dear Jack

Most cars and vintage mustangs, have the lower radiator hose going to water pump and the upper radiator hose going to the thermostat.

I have seen refernece to the orginal hoseing on the radiator to be the opposite. My Mangusta's lower hose on the radiator, passange side is going to the water pump and top driver side hose going to thermostat, the standard vintage Mustang way.

Which is better for Mangusta or the Pantera? the way the factory set it up lower hose to thermostat and upper hose to water pump, so the heat can go from bottom to top of radiator? Or does it not matter?

Thanks for your comments.

In many ways, the Goose is a special case, but I don't think this is one. I tried my Pantera plumbed both ways and it made no difference that I could detect. If cooled water goes in the bottom and rises to the top, this is called a 'cascade' system and it is used to be sure all air is chased out of the system by the rising water. Adding cooled water to the top & letting the water drop down the radiator MAY allow air to go counter-flow and cause bubbles that can be hard to chase out later. But there are other factors at work- this is a double-pass rad, not a single pass as in most other cars, the speed of the water flowing from the pump is higher since we use smaller diameter pulleys, etc so its tricky to compare mid-engined sportscars to front engine grocery-getters.
