An electrical mis-fire will tend to cause backfires in the exhaust system, because the motor passes unburned fuel, from the mis-fired cylinders, into the exhaust. Electrical problems can manifest themselves anywhere, idling in the driveway, etc, although they can get worse with the motor under load, such as acceleration, going uphill, etc.

An engine starved for fuel will "lurch" or "buck" under load, like acceleration, going uphill, etc. But in the driveway or cruising on level ground it runs OK.
