Wayne,

I own an '86 GT5-S. I've seen them sell in the 50-60k range. They should be worth much more, but apparently those selling them don't seem to think so. I've seen two white ones in the past year offered in the 80k range. I don't know if they sold, or for how much.

A couple of months ago, there was a yellow '86 5-S on PI for sale at around 51-53k it needed some interior work, maybe other work as well. Those who've looked at that particular Pantera would know more about it.

I've heard that deTomaso made 129 GT5-S Panteras from model years 1985 to 1990. I've also heard that about 50 in total made here to the US (this I'm not totally sure about). Two that made it here are targa roofed cars (out of about 6 targas in total).

I think Mike is right on. I could easily see myself pay high 50's to mid 60's for a pristine GT5S. Anything more that that, I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with.

A couple of years ago, I seen a red Amerisport GT5S with Campy clones sell for $46K. Someone got a great deal with that one. There's also a black GT5S that was discussed on this board that recently went for a similar low price. These are definitely the exceptions...or they had issues..

Europe, on the other hand, seems to "enjoy" higher prices than the US...as seen on this website: http://www.mobile.de

Kevin,

I believe the red GT5-S that sold for 45-46k was an unfinished project, and some of it went in boxes (and I think it also needed paint).

The black GT5-S that was for sale on PI was offered in the mid 50k range and sold in the low 50k's. It had a few minor issues, and that's why the price was negotiated down. The bottom line is no 20 year old car is perfect!

Fixing these things is part of the joy of ownership. I like the feeling that my car, in my possesion, is on the upswing, not the downswing! Anyway, the more we fix and maintain, the more we learn about our Panteras.

Nah, I'm referring to a Barrett Jackson car. It was a complete and beautiful looking car. I think you're talking about Roys' car.

Could be. I do remember the red mid 40K GT5-S project, though.

Yes, the BJ GT5S sold for the price stated. I remember thinking what a steal.

Gary Roy's was asking $43.5 for his. Here's a link from Melton's website: http://www.geocities.com/detomaso4sale/Roys.html

This ad is fairly old..but even then, I thought the buyer got a real good deal.. Even with the minor fender ding and the suspension in boxes. The car did take a while to sell... Chuck Melton could probably add more.

Kevin
DeTom,

Who said I was selling my car?

That thought never entered my mind. I won't part with my Pantera as long as I'm alive! One could wave 100k cash in my face and it wouldn't even phase me.

I dreamed of owning my particular Pantera for 8 years before actually doing so. I have it for 2 years now, and we're just in the beginning!

I can see the Aussies paying top dollar for English Panteras..since that's where most the right hand drives are located.

Too bad here in the US we cherish more the old Chevelles, plastic Corvettes and mundane Mustangs than we do Panteras.

I'm not sure if the ads are current, but there appear to be at least three GT5-S Panteras for sale in Europe. Two black ones on http://www.mobile.de and one yellow on http://www.carclassic.com. All three are between 70 and 73K Euros, which would give a pretty fair idea of what the EU market value is. US value? Add a few K at least. Still a bargain considering the performance and exclusivity.
