Intake

Sounds like the brake booster vacuum line. You need to secure this line onto the intake for adequate brake pressure.

I took the rubber piece out of the intake, and found that it was cracked, which is probably why the small canister was not fitting into the intake too secure. I wonder if these come with all Jack Rousch intakes? Does anyone know where I can check on getting this rubber part, such as a Jack Rousch website for parts?

I doubt if Rousch sold whatever that thing is. Most intakes, whether Rousch, Edelbrock, Weiand etc are sold with no accessories included. It sorta sounds like a check valve in the vacuum line to the power brake booster in the front trunk. If so and it appears defective, throw it away as there's already one built into the booster itself.

This line comes from the rear of the carb (when you look into the engine bay, you can see it about an inch below where it says Holley), and then goes into the intake, flat surface. Since the rubber isn't fitting correctly on the intake, there is a small amount of oil coming either from the hose or the intake openining onto the intake surface, making a mess. If you put your finger in the hole into the intake, you feel metal about an inch down into the intake. I don't know why someone would put this hose line here if it is not needed. But if I don't need such a hose, I don't know what I could use to plug that hole (I suppose it should be plugged_. The opening is about the size of a silver dollar. I could try my coark from my Merlot bottle, but the diameter is too small.

THATS NOT THE INTAKE! IT'S THE VALVE/ROCKER COVER! THE HOSE IS SUPPOSE TO GO FROM THE BASE OF THE CARB OR INTAKE MANIFOLD AND GO TO THE PCV VALVE THAT PRESS FITS INTO THE MISSING RUBBER GROMMET THAT IS SUPPOSE TO PRESS FIT INTO THE HOLE IN THE VALVE COVER YOU SAY IS THE SIZE OF A SILVER DOLLAR; IN THE CASE OF A THIN WALLED STEEL COVER! OR THE HOSE WILL GO TO THE PCV VALVE THAT PRESSES INTO THE RUBBER GROMMET OF A 1/4 TURN CAP, WHICH SCREWS INTO THE HOLE OF A THICK WALLED ALUMINUM VALVE COVER. WHAT YOU THOUGHT WAS A "CANISTER" MUST BE THE PCV VALVE ITSELF. THAT HOSE IS YOUR "POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION"! GET YOURSELF A TECHNICAL MANUAL! MARLIN.

Thanks for the info. I have the tech bulletins, so I will look in there to see if I can find what section it talks about this PCV area. Maybe I will just coark it shut anyway.

DON'T PLUG THE COVERS COMPLETELY SHUT!! AT LEAST USE BREATHERS OR ELSE YOU WILL BLOW OUT GASKETS/SEALS AND HAVE MASSIVE OIL LEAKS. AND YOUR ENGINE WILL RUN LOUSY AT BEST. MARLIN.

My stock Pantera doesn't have anything out of the carb like that. Should I have a set up like this? Their is a ruber cap on that area of the carburator.
