A removable cross member was factory on my 1979 GTS. Also consider a removable E brake bracket. Both make it possible to remove the oil pan. Also consider using only High Temp silicone on the pan to seal it up. The gasket \s always push out and leak. They do make reinforced rubber gaskets . anything is better then cork gaskets.

Is this an application that would require welding?

I have a limited mechanical ability. Would I need to have the car taken to a shop?
You have to cut the old brace out and then just loosen two large nuts that secure the front lower ARM suspension pickup on each side...then you slip in the brace and tighten down the bolts. You probably need a sawzall...if you won't use it again, you could pickup a cheap one at Harbor Freight or Costco.

It's a pretty easy job....if you can do an oil pan gasket you can do this. Send me your email address and I'll send you a picture of the brace so you can see it. Also you may want to change out the old Emergency brake bracket also...both are less than $200. I can send you pictures of both.
No welding ... you would need a shop to cut off the old cross member with a saw zall and slightly grind off the old spot welded pieces from the old cross member .. the n the new cross member slides up in place ..with a little hammering .. then it bolts to the front bolts for the rear lwoer control arms. The sam basically for the E brake bracket.

Yes maybe a shop would be your best bet if your abiltiies are limited.

Yes! Please do send photo's.

It sounds like a job I could tackle. I just don't have access welding or torch set. However I am the Charlie Daniels of the Sawzall! Wink
