Oil Pump Drive

Does anybody know when Ford modified the oil pump drive shaft so it wouldn't fall out into the pan when pulling the distributor? I got the distributor out of my '73 (#5927) with no problem. Was I just lucky?

Not too sure- a '66 Ford 289 had the star washer on it to prevent the distributor from pulling the driveshaft up. So all the 351Cs should have it on as stock. Trouble comes when someone digs around in there and puts the shaft in upside down.
