As I tear down my car for restoration I am contemplating the electrical wire harnes.

First thought is the routing of the harnes. Are the later model Pantera's harness's routed any different? Particularly to the back. I wondered why it was routed through the side channel but not the center. I suspect it is the heating and airconditioning take so much room.

Second anyone adapt aftermarket wire harness to their car? I am thinking of re-designing the entire harnes. I know I am going to set the entire dash on a plug in system so it can be removed by unpluging the main harnes, a ground harnes and maybe a sub system or two.

I am thinking of putting the fuse box in the front trunk and I know I will be adding rellays and changing many things. Juust curious if anyone had any direct thoughts on some of it.

A couple problems I find is :

The fuse panel door conflicts with the roll bar so relocation to the front is a great idea.

The harness in the rear is subject to too much heat. it would be better routed thru the upper frame.

The dash is a challenege with all the wires hanging one harness attched and a plug would be great.

The fuse box with those hot dog fuses gott to go. Poor contact is always an issue.

......Probably a lot easier to fabricate a velco attached cover instead of moving all that wiring.

........Stock box is fine if maintained and you substitute with the glass GBC fuses. Blade style conversion of original box is available from Pantera Parts Connection, and Bob Timma, through Pantera East, sells another blade style box adapted from Nissan.

My take is the stock harness may be color coded impaired, and some of the construction details need to be addressed with relays, upgrades and etc. But all that is MUCH easier than ripping it all out and starting over. Not for the faint of heart.

Thanks LPB, I think a custom harness will really help me lay out the connections, rellays, extra items, deleted items, etc. If I want to do it my way I don't see any other way. I agree about extra wires. I am even thinking of possible future changes such as FI etc. I might even run a secondary fuse pannel in the back so I can make additions easier latter.
