I know that this subject has been extensively covered but I am hving trouble with #06984 running HOT! I had the rear end up on the floor jack about 12". I had my lisle funnel in the coolant tank and the engine was running at idle with both shrouded sucker fans running full blast on my lay down Phoenix radiator. I have an aluminum Hi-Flow water pump. I ran it for about 20 minutes and it ran between 180 and 195. All of a sudden it shot up to about 240 and I reached in to shut it down it boiled over out of the lisle funnel, all over the engine I had just finished detailing. I let it cool down, checked the oil and there was no water in the oil and no oil in the water. I also have a 180 thermostat and I have bypassed the heater hoses with a short 90 degree hose that connects both nipples on the waterpump. I had bled the radiator and didn't get any significant air out of the system.

Any ideas of things to look at?

Also, when you fill the 2 tanks how full should the expansion tank be when everything is cold?

Thanks

Better experts than me should comment here, but one thing did occur to me. If there is air in the system you will run hotter than you should. Are you able to, or, did you bleed air from your radiator and system? I am informed that bleeding should take place with the rear of the car elevated about six inches off the ground with a standard radiator, lay down, who knows? You have the correct Cleveland themostat?

At some point I may switch to a lay down and this point is of interst.
