With my GT4 conversion looming, i'm considering the wheel options for my car. I saw an episode of 'Overhaul' last night where a Mustang had been prepared for a guy in a wheel chair. Great guy and great car, especially the rear wheels. They looked slightly 'hot rod' in size, but needless to say filled the wheel wells really well. The result was a fantastic overall look to the car.
It's got me thinking. Could you go 20" at the rear, possibly with modifications? The GT5 wheels would possibly have to be custom made. Who would make such a wheel?
This would break the mould in customising these cars and surely it create a certain look unprecedented in Panteras!

It would maintain the value of your car better if you chose a wheel that is "accepted" within the Pantera community (and by Pantera shoppers) as an expected upgrade. Often, not always, such wheels maintain the oem look of the car.

FYI, Larry Stock, Pantera Parts Connection, has 18" 3 piece modular wheels manufactured by Kodiak for the wide body cars, with the 10 spoke campy center design (Gp4, GT5, GT5-S looks). He unveiled them at 'Vegas last spring, they looked bitchen!

BD,

I got a set of Kodiak's during the group buy last January in preparation for my GT4 conversion (this winter's project; Larry Stock got my steel flares in this week, so no turning back now!)

I chose 18x13 rear and 17x10 front to enhance the front down raked look. Personally the cars I've seen with even 19" wheels look 'odd' the wheels overpowering the car and the ride height too high. I suggest you look around at some Panteras with large wheels before committing to anything.

As George says the PPC/Kodiak 10 spoke wheels Larry has are great, had I not been part of the group buy, those are the ones I would have bought, maybe later I'll decide I need track and road sets Big Grin However, I strongly urge you check with any vendor on realistic delivery times, there has been a lot of dissapointment and frustration on wheel delivery times and I know Larry has still not received any of his 20 sets of the 10 spokes despite unveiling them last May.

I am waiting for "Twheels" to come out for the Pantera. I think Michelin is the one developing them right now. Then instead of 18" wheels, I will get 18" rotors with six calipers per wheel and motor assited hydralics.
No I won't. I always talk about spending big bucks, but never do. Frowner
I almost bought a set of Hall's Ultra Wheels years ago and I am glad that I didn't.
This wheel thing is so trendy that people who did buy them have replaced those as junk and gone to the PE style.
To me this is like adding 20 inch chrome with spinners to a Cadallac Escalade.
If anything I'm going to send out my extra Campis and have them polished. At some point the original wheels will become the "in" thing to do.
Groovy man, carry on.
Although it took a long time for it to happen, I have grown accustomed to the ultra-low profile tire/wheel packages on sports cars (they still look ridiculous to me on sedans, SUVs & trucks). My tastes have changed to the point that the 17" tire/wheel combination on my Pantera looks clunky & fat to me.

When I tell other Pantera owners that I would like to upgrade my Pantera to an 18" front / 19" rear tire & wheel package nobody has agreed with my decision.

17" wheel / tire packages have been around since the late 1980s. All of your current sports cars are running wheels 18" and up. The Viper & 'Vette are running the 18" front/19" rear combination I propose for my Pantera. The Saleen S7 & Porsche Carrera GT are running a 19" front/20" rear combination. If memory serves me, the Ferrari Enzo has 19" wheels at all 4 corners. Other Porsche models are equipped with 18" all around or 18"/19" packages.

I think it is fine if somebody's tastes favor the 17" wheel/tire packages (or even the oem 15" wheels), but in terms of leading edge tire performance, the taller wheels are where "its at".

As I have looked over the current tire sizes to choose from for the narrow body Pantera, I have found one very interesting tire. Pirelli manufactures a P-Zero tire in the size 305/30YR19, 26.3" in OD, that weighs ONLY 25 pounds. Mounting that tire on a modular wheel such as a Kodiak, should result in a significantly lighter tire/wheel package than anything any Pantera owner is currently running. This is very significant for those of you that understand the topic. Lower unsprung weight means the tire will follow uneven road better, the car's ride will improve, the car will accelerate faster and fuel economy will improve. Another important aspect for the narrow body Panteras, this tire fits ideally on an 11" wide wheel. And as side benefit to this particular tire, the revolutions per mile are almost identical to the Pantera's oem 215/70VR15 or H60-15 tires, so your speedometer will become accurate again!

What don't you like about them?
I thought they looked pretty good on the black -5S conversion PIM recently sold.

I did like them (besides the price). The point is about the trendieness of the aftermarket wheels.
The only constant is the original Campi.
I chose the middle of the road, so to speak, I have the 17" x 11" on front and the 18" x 13" on the rear. I looked at the 19" and 20" rims, but when I looked at the cars that had them, I didn't like the way the curve of the fender followed the curve of the wheel. They didn't seem to go together, in fact I thought they looked like they had some one elses wheels on their car, if you know what I mean. I have seen several other types of sports cars that I thought looked great with the 19" and 20" rims and low profile tires.

By no means am I letting my 17" Cobra R's go though- that's my 'fall-back' to the traditional look as so many of you have mentioned prior.

Who's building such a wheel?
What is going on with the delivery times on the PE 17" fr 18" rear 10 spokes? I read where there was a delay with Coddington. Are they available now?
How about the Kodiak 10 spokes? Are they lighter than the other 10 spokes? Better? When will they be available from PPC?
Cyboman has a nice looking set of Kinesis K58 fr and K59 rears. I blieve he had to modify his rear sheetmetal to fit the 19's?
I personally like the look of the spokes on the Hall Ultra MK-X wheels with the center champ knock nut in black. I wish I could find those in a 17" fr 18" rear or 18"fr 19" rear for a GT5-S body. Any thoughts on a set for sale or who could fabricate a set for me?
Does anyone know if the Hall billet aluminum suspension setup changes the backspacing?
What is a good front wheel size to have good steering?
Thanks for any advice
