The car came without a splash shield and I was wondering how it was fastened into place. I picked up '71 shield and I can see there is a clip angle towards the top. There is also a few random holes around the edges. I have a small nut welded to the top of the fender well.Does the clip on the shield get bolted to the nut on the fender well? Is there any other fasteners required? I can still have a clip welded on the inside of the fender, if required. Should be due for the paint booth in the next week.

Here's a pic of my '71 rr splash shield. It bolts at the top left (bent tab) to the inner fender well (welded nut), at the upper left to the stiffener channel (welded nut), and at the lower right to a bracket that is attached to the rocker panel.

There is rubber edge material (u shaped) on some the edges.

Is your car a '71?

Let me know if you need more info or pics.

John,

My bracket broke off several years ago (actually, decades). I did one of those quick, temporarily permanent repairs. I used a machine screw (10-32 I think) at the rocker weld flange and a pop rivet at the rocker bottom flange. I also added a diagonal brace at the top inboard edge of the bracket to the boxed in section of the rocker panel. It is just visible at the top of the bracket.

The other pics show the other two attachment points. The top attachment could be done with a bolt and nut instead of welding on a nut.
