Cam drive pins are a fact of life on all Ford engines. I've sheared them on Ford 6s. They are always caused by the retaining bolt loosening up, putting impacts into the steel dowel drive pin. I use red Lock-tite on the cam drive bolt when rebuilding Ford engines. If you're not lucky, any looseness will also damage or break the stamped fuel pump eccentric pin. Since replacement dowel-pins are only a few cents but fuel pump drives are not sold new any more (too old), repairing this can get complicated.
