I have a question about the long shift rod that attaches to the shifter and goes through the firewall and ends just past the trunion bearing. I am putting the car back together and found the shifting rather difficult. (I had disassembled, cleaned & regreased the shifter had all of the shifter linkage out cleaned & painted, and my transmission rebuilt, and a new trunion bearing) As I was looking around to see what might be causing the difficult shifting I noticed that the above piece was rubbing on stainless tube that connects the undercarriage tubes to the water pump. I took the shifter rod out and noticed that the bend in it is not in the center so I measured Approx. 23" from one end to the bend and approx. 19" inches from the other end to the bend. So, now after all that, my question is, which end of the shifter linkage goes inside the car? Any other hints suggestions would also be appreciated.
Thanks
Gary
p.s. now I have a new question. Should that rod have a bend in it at all? By the way this car is a 74 L
