The earliest Pre-L Panteras were equipped with M Code engines, and it is my impression their air cleaners had blue tops. Later Pre-L Panteras were equipped with 1971/1972 Q code engines, and I believe their air cleaners had chrome tops. It is also my impression none of the air cleaner tops had Ford decals on them. All L model Panteras were equipped with the 1973/1974 Q code engines, and it is my impression their air cleaners had chrome tops and no decals.

By the way, the eBay link I posted earlier doesn't appear to be the top for an OEM Ford air cleaner, the ad reads its 14" diameter! The tops for the OEM Ford air cleaners are about 17" diameter. That ad is a bit misleading, its actually a top for a 14" diameter open element style air cleaner. There are true reproduction tops for the OEM air cleaners available. For instance:
