Can anyone help me diagnose a "funny" with my tachometer?
I have a 73 Pantera (UK car - if that matters) which I have been recommissioning after many years (30!) off the road.
All was fine with the Tacho until it started playing up recently.
The first oddity was, with the engine running, the Tacho read to about 6000 rpm but would "bob" back and forth a bit. I disconnected the pulse wire from the coil and the Tacho went to Zero, as you would expect. Reconnected the pulse wire and everything worked fine!
A few days later the Tacho again read to 6K - disconnected and reconnected the pulse wire: this time nothing - Zero revs.
Left it at that for a couple of drives without the Tacho working at all, thinking "not the greatest priority - I'll get round to sorting it later".
Came back to the car a few weeks later, ignition on - Tacho now reads max, off the scale clockwise, with the pulse wire STILL DISCONNECTED! I hadn't changed anything in the car the only thing different was the sun had gone down and up in the passage of a few days - nothing else different.
Can anyone offer any explanation?
If it helps I am running Lumenition Optronic Electronic Ignition and a Lucas DLB105 Coil (no ballast regulator)
Many thanks for any help .....
