Trunk Latch

My front trunk is very difficult to close. I have to slam it just right. After a while I had to bend the rod back. Very poor setup. I was thinking of using one of the screw down trunk latches like the modern Lincold does. Any one mess with that before?

mine won't latch if it is slammed. I close it the press just above the latch with a flat hand.
I have one of the 'pull down' latches and am checking on installing it.

Mine closes like edguru (Glen's) It is tight too, I don't like the way I have a gap wide on the passenger side. 83-9? camaro and firbirds have a pulll down latch as do most Caddilacs. Gary, To me the screw down latch is just somthing else to break. I'll bet a thinner seal would do better.

Well I am prety much set on trying one. You close a say lincoln trunk and it "click" then pulls it down. Right now I have to hold it about 6" from being closed, and flat hand it kind of hard.

comp2, I'll ask the obvious question: Have you checked the alignment and proper operation of the latch mechanism? No foreign objects stuck in there?

Yea, closes fine. Fits well and has a good seal. Rod does bend over a couple closings and is getting weak. It may be flexng like a spring a little making it harder to snap in. Nothing acts or sounds unusual.

If you just lay the hood against the latch, a firm push with the palm of your hand is all it should need. I am anal and always use a cloth or towel.

I am still thinking an electric latch like the newer cars have might be nice.

I would still have a manual cable. The only thing is I may not be abe to re-latch it.

Mine to; have to be closed with the flat hand with much pressure. I was thinking about to use a setup like it is mounted in the back of the car. On my car the deck lid close with one finger and a very little pressure …“click”. For me, that’s the way it has to feel.

LPB, thanks, that was the first 'mod' I made to the car when I got it last week. Reading about the potential horror stories on this site scared the $hit out of me.. LOL
