Many years ago I replaced both my window gears with the metal versions. At that time I also replaced all of my window track runners etc. Today, my driver's side window started acting up like the gear was broken. It turned out to be nothing more than that the motor had come loose from the mounting bracket. In order to get them good and tight I dropped the widow regulator down to get at the nuts. That was the easy part.

After re mounting the regulator, the window now binds up. I have tried every possible adjustment of the tracks, regulator mount including various shims with no success. If I even get close with the bolts loose, as soon as I tighten them down the window binds.

I have read old posts that say it is trial and error, but I never had this problem after replacing the old gears .
Any suggestions ?

I had the same problem, I beleive the curve of the window does not match the curve of the track and door. (I'm writing from memory) I used spacers between some of the track/regulator mounts in order to tighten the bolts. After I did that the window moves freely and is less load on the motor. I measured the motor current and was able to keep it below 10 amps (up direction)that improves speed and switch life as well.
