Pantera #3246 - Need help on a potential purchase

Hello all.

I'm new here but have lurked for quite a while. The knowledge here is amazing and is why I'm needing advice/assistance on a Pantera I'm considering.

I'm considering driving out to see the vehicle but would like to know some things to look for.

Also, I know the Panteras can have certain "issues" and although this is most certainly intended to be a collectible buy I would like to drive it from time to time and wondered what to expect as far as annual costs are concerned and what I should expect maintenance wise.

I'm 41 and have wanted a Pantera since I was 8 or 9 years old. I've always loved these cars and I don't want to buy this based on an impulse.

So, I'm looking to the board for advice and guidance.

Check out my "How to Buy" page and thoroughly read all the other resources linked from this page, especially the articles on Corrosion so you'll know where to look for rust:

Also, see if you can find another local Pantera owner to go inspect the car with you. You'll learn A LOT by inspecting a Pantera with someone who's knowledgeable on Panteras, and two of you will be able to inspect the car more thoroughly than just one person.

Judging From the pictures I would be surprised if you found much wrong with this Machine; as I can tell that the work was done by a person who is skilled, knows what they are doing and really Loves these cars. Jake, I agree with you on the wheels/tires. They do seem to be set closer together especially when viewed from the front right like in that picture at the bottom.

Are there different lengths of transaxles and different suspension components for a real GT5?

Or do you suppose it was lowered a bit which wouldn't allow for proper spacing?

I've been in contact with the seller. Fortunately, I have some time to contemplate as I'm off to Vermont until next Thursday. If I haven't talked myself out of it (or it hasn't sold) Big Grin I'll go see it next weekend.

Perhaps part of the evaluating price has to do with the backspaceing of the wheels on this car.

I think that the wheels are wrong for it. The wheels probably came first then the flares. That's probably what caused the issue.

If that is so then deduct the price of a new set from your $50k. That accounts for some discrepancy.

That type of obvious oversight cast some doubt into the minds of buyers. What else is wrong, etc? That kept the car from reaching it's present potential.

I agree 45-55k. Looks nice,,,,, but pictures can be deceiving, you must see car in person. Check for rust and/or have car inspected by pantera connoisseur before you buy. Don’t buy a piece-o-shit that looks nice on the outside (I’m NOT saying this car is junk, I wouldn’t and could not know by looking at the pic’s).

Take your time to buy, if this is not the one, don’t buy it, wait for the right car, don’t give up, you will love it.
