3 weeks ago i got to see and sit in a Pantera for the very first time. special thanks to local Pantera Guru Michael Shortt.
1 week ago, i bought a 1971 Pushbutton that was partially taken apart to be painted, when another opportunity arose and the owner needed to sell the car , quickly.
thanks to this community, the owner saw my " Pantera Wanted " thread and contacted me privately. the car was not advertised for sale.
vin is *1355* build date is march of 1971.
car needs work, but its rust free and very original, in a scary 37 year old car kind of way.
i will definitely need your help getting this one on the road again. cooling system is first!
car also came with tons and tons of new parts, in the boxes and wrap ! carpet, seats, console, door panels, armrests, all the metal trim, and bumpers are new , replated or recovered!

thanks for the kind words. i am also hoping to get a later GTS if i can swing the cash.

i am going to spend most of the day changing fluids and going over the car on a lift at my friends car dealership. good point on the ignition, i just noticed that the car requires you to raise the hood to put fuel in!

i guess a good halon extinguisher is my next purchase!
Congratulations Michael! Looks like a great car, and a fun project. It's always nice to start with such a solid car, and boxes of new stuff is a big bonus! Please post lots of pics, and don't hesitate to ask questions. Glad you got this instead of #7001! Happy times ahead!

Congratulations Michael on what looks like a great find! Your quest for a Pantera reminds me of a similar experience I had about a year ago when I saw a post asking if there was an owner close to Missouri that could show a potential buyer his car & talk P-cars with him. I immediately contacted the gentleman & made arrangements for him to come out to my home on a Saturday & I'd try my best to enlighten him on the Pantera experience. His main concern turned out to be whether or not he could fit into & be comfortable in the car since he turned out to be quite a bit bigger than myself. He and a friend who had come along with him both drove my car & by the time they left I think they both wanted one. He hasn't purchased one yet due to building a new house first but I'm sure he'll be an owner one day soon & hopefully join the brotherhood. It's great getting together with people who are potential Pantera owners & spreading the gospel on these great cars - and making friends at the same time! Good Luck!

Michel, it's probably just that you're not logged into the Forum on the computer you're using. Look beside the small Groupee logo on the upper right side of the page. If it doesn't say "Welcome, ... [Logout]" then you need to log back in. I can see the pics, so they're there.
ah, the "log in" monster got me, thanks guys!

i wan tto take the car for a drive around the block to warm the gearbox up , so i can change the fluid.

the only thing i found on the car is one spot of rust in the lower LH quarter panel skin, and that the 2 motor mount bolts on the right side of the block are sheared off flush with the block. guess i will be drilling most of the day!

good thing i have 10 years of beating on aircraft and a bunch of air tools!

is there any place that shows a collection of vins and build month? i have seen other cars with lower vin's than mine that were also 72 push buttons. i was just wondering if there is any logic to how the chassis were built and the how the cars were numbered. having had 4 carb Ferrari s from the 1970's, i have seen some really weird things.

i do like how my car has "355" all over the place on the sheet metal in black grease pencil !

thank you, i am still sorting thru the boxes !

i am going to put lights, seats and seat belts on the car to drive it some until i find a good paint shop that can strip it. i am not a paint expert , but i think the acrylic lacquer has to be stripped all the way off.
Lookin good, congratulations on your Pantera purchase. Your car sounds just like mine an unfinished paint project when I bought #1306.

That rust on the lower left quarter if its by the door is pretty normal as the 71 didn't have a full height splash shield against the gas tank. The tire would fling dirt and mud over the shield to be traped on the rocker panel next to the fuel tank. If you have the motor out in the future pull the tank and clean/repair this area if needed.
