Ford GTs, Cobra roadsters, Cobra Daytona coupes, Mustangs, Lotus Fords, Lola Fords, Beach Fords, Ginetta Fords, Cooper Fords and lots of other marques/motors competed in an epic race with a wet finish...........

Ironically in my case:
Finishing 4th OA and 1st in GT 5.0 was my former boss, Bob Bondurant in a Shelby Cobra Daytona coupe, a car he actually kept until he sold it just before moving his driving school to Sears Point in late 1973.
Finishing 13th OA/3rd GT 5.0 in another Team Shelby coupe was Ed Leslie, who drove my Lola T70 in 3 Can-Ams in 1968. I later sold that Lola in early 1973 and bought the Brabham BT 40 that I won the race with at Laguna Seca that got me the job with Bob Bondurant at Sears Point in late 1973.

And this 14 page photo album/article from Sports Car Digest begins with such (strange now, but typical of then) sights as this shot of 2 Shelby Ford GTs being driven to/from tech inspection (at the local firehouse) on public roads............

Ron, it's been an honor to have had your help working on my car, and I've enjoyed hearing your stories about your racing adventures.

You were quite the racing stud. You drove cars I only dream about now, and occasionally see at the vintage event at Sears Point.

Glad to know ya!
I can't claim to (quite) be of that era, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night....

Seriously, I do know John Horsman of John Wyer Engineering / Le Mans fame, and I collected this little slide show of pictures I collected off the interwebs associated with him. As you know, JWE raced GT-40s and Porsches to some small amount of success in 67-71 at Le Mans.

Ron - If this is sidetracking you thread, let me know and I can turn this into a link, and move it to it's own topic.

Slideshow - The John Horsman Experience

Thanks -

Rocky

That's John H. on the right, John Wyer in the center, and a guy named Yorke in the left. The two Johns don't look too happy at this point.
