Doug is correct, but there's a little more to it. As an example, a full serial number of a US GTS is THGTNDO6843. A non-GTS car built in the same time frame is THPNNDO6787. There were about 98 1974s and another 40 1973 cars that Ford retitled as GTSs. All US GTS cars were basically only a decal package which is still easy to duplicate, but the s/n is not. A complicating factor is, most std body Panteras sold in Europe, outside of the Ford-controlled import system, were called 'GTS' by DeTomaso. Some of these cars were then privately imported to the US, so they too enter the mix. The national Pantera club (POCA) keeps a Roster of all registered Panteras, Unfortunately, only about 1500 of the cars are actually listed by their owners. S/n 7001 is not listed so there is no history on it. S/n 7002 IS a real GTS, as is 7003 and 7005, so the chances of 7001 being correctly termed a GTS is pretty high.
