Hagerty, the collector car insurance goliath, was nice enough to contact me about an article on the Pantera.

It just published. Here's the online link.

I put Pantera International plug in there, plus PanteraPlace. They wouldn't let me get 'over promotional' so that was about it.

If you disagree with anything in it, you can let me know on THIS site, or just PM me.

If you have something favorable, I hope you'll comment accordingly on the Hagerty site.

This is less for MY accolades and more to incrementally change the opinion of our favorite cars!

Nice job. One might include that there were really four different Pantera models available- pre-L, L, GT5/GT5-S and Pantera 200, all very different as far as handling and appearance, made over a 30 year span. And as far as problems, be reasonable- any 30-year old car thats still moving under its own poewer has no serious problems- or it wouldn't BE moving. IMHO, a completely original U.S Pantera was a scary handler but Dallara's suspension front and rear IS adjustable for caster, camber, toe-in and bump-steer using factory upgrades. Otherwise, a nice fair write-up- for a change.
WOW, thanks guys! You folks must have a very low threshold of writing appreciation! Really appreciate the comments.

Agree with JOE1974L that the more 'positives' about the article, the more it/we're seen as relevant, the more potential additional articles, more advertisers, leading to more stories. I've been at this a while; this IS the way it works.

Far as anyone getting feeling hurts, I can't help it. They (publishers) DO NOT like unpaid 'ads' for others, so I had to walk a thin line, chose this one (PI).

I 'sense' that POCA will get mentioned favorably in comments, and honestly, that's what it's all about: building relevance is good for ALL of us.

Yet - and you can choose your own course here - if the 'comments' degenerate into bickering over minutiae or off-topic diversions, that'll do it in.

But I REALLY appreciate the comments here AND there. And Bosswrench, maybe they need a sequel!

Far as that Swedish 'person' called E-type, yes, I'd choose differently! Does 'E' stand for EEEEK!?

So, if you're willing...

1. Spread the news on this article.
2. More comments, more 'likes' are good.
3. MORE LINKING TO YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE or Twitter are even better.
4. Send the link to other car freaks. Can't hurt.

Thanks again.

Thanks Great article. Great support for the marque. FOund another great quote on the web today.

quote:
The totally stock 71 Pantera had a tested top speed of 160 MPH and a 0 to 60 time of 5.5 seconds. It could stop in 112 feet from 60 MPH. Most of the Panteras that you see on the road today no longer have stock engines and will be around 4.6 seconds 0 – 60 or better. In the Pantera community modified engines are the norm.

In 1981 Popular Mechanics Magazine did a big million dollar performance car test of all the major exotics. The stock $60k 1981 GTS Pantera was the overall winner. The Pantera ran the slalom test in 8.91 seconds, the 512 in 9.00 seconds and the 308 in 9.49. The Pantera lap time was 1:55:9, the 512 was 1:57:2 and the 308 was 2:03:0. The overall order was Pantera, M1, Porsche 928, Countach, 512 and then the 308, etc. Sterling Moss and Phil Hill joined the PM staff for the test. Those of you that have raced at the Pocono Raceway know that the Panteras do pretty darn well on the track!

The Pantera is very addictive, if you don’t want to own one stay away from them! :-)

Adams,

Great article and support of our favorite cars. I like the reference to websites that "all" can access and newbies can learn from. None of that silly sharing or not availible to one just entering our hobby.

However Adams I am dissappointed that the VALUATION part of your article is so low (IMHO).
So; I'll give you $ 53,700 for your Pantera today? Ready to sell?

Am I dreaming thinking valuations of some of our cars are way higher than this? I have received offers of $ 65-70k which I think is way too low for my car. Unless we as a group support true valuations (not driver or project type $$$) we will never get the $$$ respect.

Like I have mentioned before I get more attention, review, interest, offers, dreamers, oohhs and aahhs than anything I have ever owned. When I had my 2005 XLR (thru 2007) that did run a close 2nd to the Pantera in interest.

Quoting Adams:

•4: $26,800 (A needs work car, not fully streetable, potential rust issues.)
•3: $34,100 (A sound driver, presentable and useable, yet with needs.)
•2: $44,000 (An exceptional car, solid and considered “show worthy” to the average observer.
•1: $53,700 (Either a flawless, low-mileage original, pristine in all respects or a painstakingly executed resto-mod tastefully upgraded to modern driving standards.

I think all the $$$ references are low.

Dear Dave the Disgruntled Dreamer,

PUT AWAY THE TORCHES. Those figures were THEIR nnumbers from their "Cars That Matter" price guide, not mine. They publish that AND are 'on the hook' for assessing value, ie, an insurance company.

But yes, I accept your $53,700. That was easy!

I say if any of us wants the value to be high, then DO NOT sell low. Yes, that's grade school advice but we're all to 'blame' for low evaluations by 'thinking' our cars are worth 'x' because that's what they're worth. Baloney.

Dave, I'm glad you're holding out. Good for you. I have a ton in my car, but I enjoy it more than some other cars I have more in. I think the quality is there, the performance. the usability... you name it.

So, maybe as our collective 'values' of the cars' rise, then so will the market equivalent.

Ooops, then nevermind. I refuse your low ball offer, you scoundrel!

on my microsoft internet explorer it sends me to Bing, but on my Google Chrome it suggests www.panterainternational.org witch sends you to POCA.

Odd, I wasn't fully aware of all that. I emailed the publisher for a correction on that!

Thanks.

UPDATE: publisher responded, link updated and corrected.
