Aluminum Gas tank

Aluminum doesn't rust.

Stainless steel is the way to go.

I agree .. I dropped mine off at a friend who has a sheetmetal shop to see if he could fabricate a new one. Not an easy chore even for a pro ..

Hall had them new, polished or natural. Around $1000 as I recall.

Thanks for all the replies. I was removing the tank from the wreck that I'm parting out and was surprised to find out that it was aluminum. I am trying to decide if I should sell it or put it in my car. I think I'm leaning towards selling it.

If it was me I would put that aluminum tank in my car and sell the steel tank.

I have an aluminum tank in my car that sat since 1984 and when I pulled the tank out it was clean as new inside.

if you want to sell it. let me know how much you want for it.

I am planning on building an aluminum tank for mine. I want to put my oil cooler and oil accumulator on the left side so I don't have to run hoses everywhere. This would be the ideal location so I will be fabricating a tank out of scratch for the right side from aluminum.

I will post some pics in the For sale section tomorrow. The tank is wrapped with fiberglass. I'll sell the tank with sender for $1,000.

Aluminum is good but it will still corrode if water gets trapped in it or between it and the frame. So long as it is kept dry you can expect years of reliability.
