doing a job over in the Emirates - I'm constantly amazed by the cars and the driving. The locals drive very fast ignoring the fixed speed cameras. If you buy a 2nd hand car over here you get to keep the speeding fines as well! Some people run up thousands of dollars worth and you finally have to pay when you want to renew the registration.

In one lane a supercar flies past and in the next is a utility with 3 or 4 camels sitting in the back.

tonight I was walking down the "car dealers" main street in Al Ain (a little oasis town in the desert which nobody would have heard of) when I saw this car in the window of a classic car dealership. Its a maserati MC12 - appparently 1 of 12 worldwide, and worth 1 million euros. Only able to be used on race tracks, not homologated for road use. 756 bhp and it looks like it just finished Le Mans. It feels like you're at one of the big international motor shows with all these cars - then I remember that our cars cost a great deal less and probably turn heads nearly as much. But I think the Maser would be quite special. On their website there's 15 pics and a whole lot of other cars besides. So if you want to see a lot of different modern supercars in showroom or on road, this is the place.

WOW! Quite the showroom. The Maserati reminded me of a clip I saw about a British multi-millionaire who bought one of these during the winter and couldn't wait to drive it. He drove it to a track (had to get the instruction manual to figure out how to put gas in it) IN THE SNOW and sure enough, ran it on the track, snow covered and all. Ran it into one of the guard rails in no time at all. Laughed it off like he'd just wrecked some old beater. Definitely believed in owning cars to drive them.
