I want to do my front decklid in flat or satin black.

I've looked into these "wraps", you see them all the time on cars, where the whole car is done up as an advertisement, but I just want to do my front decklid in flat black.

I've watched some vids, it doesn't look like rocket science. I'm wondering if anyone's tried it, how it went?

I've gotten some quotes that make me want to try it myself before I pay someone. Materials are around $60-$80 for a sheet the size of my decklid.

It's a 2 person job, and it looks like something I might be able to pull off with a buddy, but I thought I'd ask first. If it's harder than it looks then I may break down and pay someone to do it.

You could try the Plasti-dip, it's easier IMO than the wrap, just spray on and keep building coats.

The wrap is tough on a large area with a big sheet where you have to squeegee as you go. If you use a soap solution it gives a bit more margin and time, but the professionals do make it look easier than it is.
Every post I've read from do-it-yourselfers has been them regretting not hiring a professional in the first place. Curved areas are worse than flat, apparently. (But people are more inclined to bitch than otherwise. So take that all for what it's worth.)

But I gotta ask. You paid what, $50k plus probably for your car (?). For $80, why are you even asking? Buy a piece, call your buddy, give it a try, and buy your buddy a beer. Then let us know how YOU did.
Yes, I got sheet and applied the blue to the side of one of my former race cars below. It was just a race car and not super critical, but there were small creases. I had to go back over with a pin for some bubbles and release the air. A flat horizontal surface would probably be slightly easier. If I were doing a Pantera hood I'd remove it and take it to the experts. How much did they quote you?
