Don't know if you have heard of the riot's that are happening here in AUS.
It's so stupid, people of Lebanese background started all this last week!
When about ten or so of them beat up three aussie life savers, the lebanese guys told the
life savers to get off there beach, then they beat the crap out of them.
The youngest life saver was only fifteen and the oldest was nineteen,"just kid's".
You probably won't hear about how it started
just how racist all aussie are!
Cronulla is only 5mins for my place!
Dennis reporting live for Sydney Australia

PS If they touch my Pantera,or even go near it i'll start my own riot.

Yes and No!
It's become more of a lebanese thing now.
We have never experience anything like this before.
Most of the problems and violence is happening at night
when all the young lebanese youths are feeling more bullet proof and tough.
They are going around smashing cars up and property in revenge attacks!
Let the truth be known that they did it before this incident, now they just think it's justifiable.
So apart from that everything is just fine...

Sorry to read that Dennis.

It doesn't matter "who" started the situation, the folks who are rioting, harming innocent people & destroying property are wrong, always. There IS no excuse for that.

I wish you and your loved ones safety. Lets hope the authorities will have the testicular fortitude to react with enough force to put a stop to this instantly. Rioting should never be tolerated, in my opinion.

I am the same as George on this.... cover your car..

It was on the national news last night. Basically, here's how it went:

Australian lifeguards attacked Lebonese youth.
Anti-Muslim sentiment has been building since 9/11 and the Bali club bombing.
After numerous attacks, Muslim youth organized and retaliated.
All is chaos.

So what we get from this is:

Australian toughs attack poor Lebonese immigrants in a long planned effort to drive them out.
Blame them for acts that they had no part in.
Brave Muslim youth rally in self defense to protect their loved ones.
Police are worthless.

Unfortunately, we are used to half truths and politically correct editing of the facts in this country. Freedom of the press has become the right to manipulate. I am not a right-wing nutcase (I'm still a registered Democrat for some reason), but I find myself shouting at the TV news nearly every night for their propensity to leave out information, not ask pertanent questions, and stretch out of all proportion to "champion the underdog". Well the underdog is not always right simply because he is in the minority.

It does not surprise me that there is more to the story than we are told.
They tried their best to humanize those poor Muslim rioters in France too. Then we find out that the car burning had been going on for months. It just got too widespread for the press to ignore it anymore.

Mooso.
Thanks George for your good wishes.

The facts are not as you seem to have understood!
Most people are tolerant of muslim youths it's just the small minority that stuff it up for the rest of us.
I have many muslim friends and work with heaps as well they are great people, just like me and you.
Why do people always seem to hide behind there religion.
It shouldn't matter what your beliefs are, as long as your a good person thats good enough for me.
Mooso the life guards were aged between 15 to 19 years old there were only three of them, the lebanese youths about 4 four of 5 of them went up to the young life guard and told the to F... off there beach "this is our beach they said" then they started a brawl.
It wasn't a fair fight, ten or more lebanese youths joined in on a 14 on 3 fight , does that sound fair to you or is that how they normally fight!
People were just feed up!
Rioting is wrong, both sides just need to think about there actions.
Australia is a very multi cultural country, people just need to be more tolerant of each others custom and beliefs.

Downunder, re-read my post. You'll see that I'm on your side all the way. I was laying out the "spin" that we were treated to by our ignoble media. Short on facts and long on implication.
If you ever lived in California you'd be aware that "surf wars" have been going on for 50 Years!! Usually it's just a handful of "dudes" staking out turf. Kinda goes with the territory in the surf "community". Come to think of it...George looks disturbingly familiar. Generally these don't amount to more than a 5 minute fist fight. Nothing like what you're going through.
I didn't see anything about it on the news last night. Hopefully the trouble has run its course.
Memories are long, though. Heck...it may turn into an annual "rumble" and you can sell tickets! (ok, maybe not so funny).
An Australian vacation is still our dream vacation. Maybe someday...

Ahhhh, it's just the santa hat!

Growing up in So Cal in the '60s, I can say I was not aware of any "my turf" attitude along the beaches from the Wedge in Orange County to Trestles in Santa Barbara County (between Point Conception & Dana Point). I didn't like surfing, wasn't any good at it, not built for it. However, I did have friends who were part of the surf scene in So Cal, such as Steve Hamner, Roy Chambers & Michael Donoon. Ring any bells?

George
I lived in San Francisco in the late '70s. Surfers up there wear wet suits, ride small waves, and are too cold and tired to fight. My only LA experiences were limited to short visits. I wouldn't have known any of the illuminaries you mentioned as I am not built for surfing either.
During one stay at Huntington Beach we were warned by our host that it was best to stay away from a certain stretch of beach because of "surf wars". Of course that's the first place we went! It was a crummy day and no one was there anyway.
These skirmishes go on between hyper adolescent males all over the world. Been there...done that. Unfortunately it seems that this behavior was the flash point for a much larger problem in Australia.

I did misunderstand you and for that I appoligize.
Just had dinner with a few of my Lebanese mates tonight and they can't
even believe the stuff there fellow lets call the patriots are getting up to...
As they said it's always the minority that spoil it for the majority.
Then everyone gets tarnished with the same brush.
I'll keep everybody informed.
