I have AAA for towing. I can usually request a flatbed for any car I want to move. You can purchase their tow service even if you don't use them for your insurance. It's a yearly fee of $75 for the premium tow service here and they will tow the car anywhere up to a 100miles. It pays for itself the first time you use it. There is even one option for towing up to 300miles but the fee is a little more.

You should check into it for your area but it should be the same.
Check the rules there but the rules as I understand it is any car I am in. It could be a rental car, a friend's car or a car I am not even driving. My friend was trying to get his GT5 conversion to an alignment shop before registering it and I turned him on to this. The flatbed delivered it to the shop. When it was ready, my friend called from the shop and got it back home. The driver of the flatbed tow carried rams(read 2x4's & 2x6's Smiler) so the car would clear the gap as the leading edge of the bed did not touch the ground but it's going to depend on the flatbed available. The articulated bed that Tom mentioned is the best if you can get one that accepts AAA. If you have AAA road service, I would call their dispatch center just to ask.
