Where do the Italians put the back-up light switch. Service manual, as usual, is useless. I thought it would be inside that shifter 'box' on the side of the trans but no wires come out of that.
bah; The back up switch is located on the gear selector box on the rear of the transaxle, and the switch screws into the side of the box. Wires do not come out of the box. Back up light wires are part of your rear wiring harness (tail lights, license, etc.) You should have two rather long wires between the license plate wires and the left side rear tail lights which run along side of the condenser to the switch.
Switch and wiring are visible in this photo. This AFAIK is best sourced from one of our vendors. I'm assuming that you would have seen it if it was still installed. Mounting is not quite as simple as it might appear for if the switch threaded portion gets installed too far into the selector housing box it can mechanically block the ability to get into reverse.
