Look back to my previous post "Help out a Newbie" for the beginning of my story...

OK guys, I had a 5 minute glance at a 71 that's been in my uncle's barn for 20 years. I was pleasantly surprized to see that the car was in pretty decent shape as a whole. 38,000 miles on the odometer. It is packed into the barn pretty tight but I managed to peel back the dusty cover enough to see that the car was pretty much all there. It had a few door ding type damaged spots but without getting under the car (as there wasn't enough room) I saw no signs of rust bubbles in the Grabber Blue paint. I could open the drivers door just enough that I could run my fingers under the door & there was no rust at all along the bottom of the door. I asked about where the car came from & it was confirmed that it came from Arizona. All indications are that it was because the only rust I saw was some pitting on the bumpers and a 1/4" spot on the front fender where the paint had been dinged long ago. The paint was a bit dull but I think a good buff would bring a lot of life back to it. The mouldings were in great shape. Again, some buffing & they would be fine.

The engine was in place with the carb off & in the trunk with the aircleaner & what looks like the orig space saver spare & a huge fuzz ball mouse nest! The interior was a bit dirty but looks complete with the only blaring problem being the steering column. It was hanging down which was from when the car was stolen back some 21 yrs ago. Evidently it was broken then. The interior will need a good cleaning but I feel that it will be plenty nice for a driver.
The motor/trans. was out of the car when my uncle bought the car & he paid a mechanic to bolt it back into the car before he had it shipped east.

So next weekend I have made plans to dig the car out & getr it into the center of the barn so I can get it up on stands & get a better look at it. He did mention that he wanted it to go to a good home... so depending on what he wants for it I beleive that I have found my new project... =)

It sure does have the making of the stories you only hear about... I'm trying not to get too excited but it's really hard not to. I've dreamed of owning this car since around 1980 when my uncle bought it. I'll let you all know what I find next weekend when we dig it out of the barn and can check it out closer. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
