I just returned from the Barret Jackson Auction
and can't believe what I saw.
If Mustangs, Camaros, C1 & C2 Vettes, Mopars
are bringing the prices I saw... Most over the 100K mark some in the 230(k) range and a 67 427 Vette that sold for 600(k) then something is definitely wrong with the Pantera Prices. They Had (1) Pantera 72 - That sold for 49,500.
I call BS - Carol Shelby's Original 289 cobra sold for 5,000,000 - I don't know about you guys but I had a 60 Vette, 68 Z28, 70 Trans Am, 70 Dodge Challenger, 70 351C Mustang and NONE of them even come close to the Pantera regarding Performance, Styling, Rareity etc.
So - I think I'm gonna cash my 401(k), sell my dog, Stand on street corners and buy every pantera I can before they become the next "HOT" Item and retire in style. Smiler Smiler Smiler Smiler

The Super Snake that sold for 5 very big ones was a supercharged big block. Main claim to fame? It belonged to HIM.

I agree with you that a lot of the prices were crazy high. I watched the collector market crash and burn years ago. Buyers that paid one million dollars for Cobra's back then were selling them for 200,000 the next year (or packing them away awaiting the revival of 2007.)

I'll bet a lot of us are reflecting on the GTO's, Super Sports, Super Bee's, Mustang's, Camaro's, and AMX's that passed through our various garages way back then...and wondering what if??

But, today is today, and we have Pantera's sitting in the garage. Slow, but steady appreciation, and a very unique automobile. I also suspect that when/if the collector car crash comes about, we won't suffer quite as much. Buy Pantera's, but don't sell the dog...one must always have a constant companion! Smiler

There simply is no good explaination why the Detomasos are not involved in the fenom.

My 18 year old son is the only one in his group that knows what they are.

I had one guy ask what kind of car is it while standing behind it reading Detomaso Pantera script.

I guess most people think it is some type of fiberfab kit.

There appear to be some quite buyers buying up the "stock" cars. I think the most accurate description of that term as it applies to the Pantera is a non flared fender car.

As Dave Adler will tell you the factory race cars have always been hoarded by people like Stauffer. Even so I don't think they brought even what a used 930 did.

Will there be Pantera frenzy? This has been the subject of more then a few threads on the forum.

So true... It's also been discussed for many years, so I'm not holding my breath.

Personally, I could care less if a dramatic rise in prices ever came. I didn't buy my car as an investment. What's more important to me is that parts remain plentiful and cheap when compared to other Italio exotics.

Is there ever a good reason why the public goes crazy over stuff? Albeit the latest christmas toy, the car that everyone wants or even who their biggest hero is.

Look at Amelia Erhardt. She crashed airplanes left and right. No one would go with her on her final voyage and finally she convinced the local drunk Fred N. to go as a navigator. Everyone else that knew her said no way. I ain't going with her anywhere. Looked what happened and now she is a hero.

Typical.
There is another reason that the Shelby car got 5 mill. He not only built his own, he built one just like it except it had an automatic, at the exact same time and sold it to Mr. Bill Cosby. Cosby did a half hour night club rotine on the whole thing and immortalized that car in peoples hearts and minds for a generation. If you ever have the chance to listen to Bill Cosby's "200 MPH" by all means do so. It is a comedy classic that even non car people love. Be prepared to laugh your ass off though. It is as funny today as it was then. Wink

It is on back order. I guess it is still real popular.
