Hello Folks
Pretty new here so just found out about panteras
was wondering about panteras that would be good project cars for around 5-10,000 dollars you were talking about two cars you are possibly buying thought you might have a lead on one that runs (sort of) and is in need of some medium level help
just retired from the navy so budget is kind of tight but been looking for a car that would turn heads on the road
Hey folks
Very new here first saw a pantera on e-bay now its my background on my computer trying to find one that needs work engine and body work any one have an idea of one up for grabs also was wondering what kind of maintenance problems keep recurring on these cars dont know to much about them so any info will help thanks
Welcome here Boatguy, and congratulations on figuring out a worthwhile way to spend your retirement time! One caution, before you jump in (sorry, couldn’t resist) is to read as many posts as possible here. There is a wealth of knowledge and information to learn from. Once informed, you’ll be better equipped to evaluate a prospective car and what would be required to bring it to the level you want. Consider joining PI as a full member and you’ll be glad you did when you see the amazing club magazine with articles and profiles on member cars and events.

Another fantastic resource is Mike Dailey’s website: www.panteraplace.com

The Pantera is a very rewarding car to own, drive, work on and share with others. I hope you join us as an owner soon. It’s a great community and we’re here to help.

welcome to the community

i am a very recent pantera owner, so i am a dangerous source of information.

cool car, turn heads, questions always get asked, if you want to be left alone - drive something else.

more seriously, this board is an incredible source of information, it seems that every pantera problem under heaven and earth has been posted and discussed. the "find" function can save tons of time and effort-hey, i know, on one problem i didn't research it-rather i wrench turned and wasted lots of effort and time.

the major item that took me time to adjust to is that the pantera is a 30+ year old car, with that comes the problems of age and older technology, metalurgy, and design (and rust).

if you cannot do lots of the work yourself, it can get pricey, besides that, go slow and have fun.

And so begins the slow spiral into insanity....but welcome aboard!!

You don't want a car thats in the 5-10k range. I just saw one on the PI website thats a "project" and its $21k with a lot of rust. Lots and lots of work. You're better off saving your pennies and buying something a little better. In the long run you will spend a lot more on a fixer.

Read everything you can on this site.....tons of very useful stuff as well a great group of guys who probably have done it all at one time or other (at least they act like it Razzer)

Boatguy1,

Welcome to the De Tomaso community. I dont think you will find anything for $10,000
You would be better off waiting until you have more money, than starting a rebuild on a very rusty car. Fixing the rust is the hardest part of a Pantera restoration if you do it yourself.
If you pay somebody, it will be the most expensive part.

Try to find a dry state car that's solid but scruffy. Here is a link to my restoration story.
