The gas tank area is particularly difficult to fix, because to access the area, the entire power train plus the tank must be removed. Buy yourself a bondo-meter when you go shopping for 30-year-old Euro cars of any make: I've seen (and owned) early Porsches that are flat unsafe to drive due to structural rusting... and FIAT & Alfas are legendary for the body damage many have today.
