Thanks guys!
Yes, it's true--I took the 427 Cobra out for a midnight drive with Lori last week, and apparently spun a bearing. Methinks the dipstick (an odd aftermarket affair) is lying, because it still shows the engine full of oil, but I have a sneaking suspicion (now) that it's quite low.
Thanks for the offer of help, but the true reason things have been sitting is a lack of time. Between working on other people's cars, flying, working, taking Pantera-related vacations all over the place, screwing magazines and newsletters together, and shipping parts to Pantera dudes all over the world, there just hasn't been time to devote to my own projects. I'm not complaining one bit--I'm the one who is setting the time priorities here. And my own cars are the lowest priority.
Since I've had all the necessary parts for months, I do have faint ambitions of pulling the Pantera motor in January, running it up to Garry Choate's house and rebuilding it, then slotting it back into the car. I may put out a call for help once I get a better idea what my January schedule looks like.
Thanks Arno for the kind words (and, it was only about 200 miles of driving, not 400!), and if you let me know the next time you're going to have a three-day layover at SFO, maybe I'll draft YOU to help pull my engine!
