Campi oxidation !

I'd thoroughly clean those areas and spray with some Zinc Chromate primer (available from Aircraft Spruce).

how "clean"? this will be something to preserve them till I can have the refurbed.

I got a can of TECnique* ZINCROM Primer on the way!

Fine-wire-brush-clean, JB. What happened is, that area cracked its paint & chromate exposing raw mag, and water got inside. Msgnesium oxide is a white pigment used in paints & paper.

I was not intentionally looking at the rims today, but the white strips caught my attention. I have that sinking gut feeling that the wheels survived 30 years with the tires on and I now ruined them in a couple months

Not likely ruined. Have you annealed them yet?

They had about 45K miles when i took off and stacked them 30 years ago. It might have been a year ago when i started digging parts and pieces out and took the tires off to save space in the storage trailer I am using

Look after your wheels. I moved my wheels into a shed as I was having a garage built, that always takes longer than expected. When I got them out, mice had nested in the 10" wheels and ruined them. The rims were rotted through in places and chunks corroded in them front and back. Only 15k miles, had been in storage ~30yrs with original P7 tires which held air until this.

That'll buff out .. NOT. Ouch.

Mouse urine is really tough on those babies. That really sucks. Sorry to hear about that.

hopefully mine can be saved.
I wiped them with same 000 steel wool and dusted those areas with MS 7222 paint. this was just a prevention effort till I can get them done right
