So, it's weekend "hunt the part" time again.  Am getting on with re-looming the car using the excellent wiring diagram.  And I find that the PO has put the horn switch on a momentary switch on the dash and the stalk operating the indicators/turn signals doesn't push in to operate the horn so it must have been changed / swapped out.... 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

The switch in there currently is a Lucas (PN 3827 but seems to have had a Ali end grafted on (which doesn't come off!).  It also has 7 wires whereas there seem to be 9 on the diagram. It does main/dip, flash and indicators but no horn

I thought the correct stalk was an early Ford Capri Mk1 or Escort Mk1 but one eBay listing shows the correct end with the net silver button on a plain plastic end with no legend but looks a bit short of stem! Others I've seen have a kink in the stalk and min is straight. So now I dont know what it should have

Anyone know the correct car model for this assembly?  The only one I could find for my current number is a Lambo Muira.... won't be keeping the costs down searching for that baby!!

Also, could someone please measure the length of stalk from cowl to where plastic starts please?  (MGB ones have a different PN but look v v similar and similar functionality).  My existing stalk is 4.25 inches / 110mm from end to start of silver Ali piece

Should it be straight or kinked?

9 wires?

cheers all

Besides Lamborghini Miura, there is one more marque that used the same indicator stalk...so if you can find someone parting a Maserati Ghibli or Sebring (late 60's GT cars), you'd be in luck--but the rest of us have to use the MGB stalk. (btw, not just us, its all Maseratinet has to offer, either).

Another that is close and actually sometimes available--As I can tell, Rolls Royce Silver Shadow used a very, very similar piece (including the same shape for the knob), but printed "Wash" (actuating the windshield wiper jets instead of the horn). https://www.ebay.com/itm/23380...7Ctkp%3ABFBMksOa4LVh

Luckily I've had mine, but this is one of my pet searches for years. Search Ebay.italy, there are 3 listings there (one somewhat distressed in Germany, one listed as NOS (and probably the last in the world, in Australia) but expensive, and another including the steering column that looks suspiciously instead like an MGB indicator stalk)...A year ago, on Ebay.it were 2 rebuilt ones, listed at ~800 euro...Lee

update, these seem to be reproduced-- search Lucas 35978 or (as an extra  Mangusta stalk I have dated 1967)  lists 34827 as the part number...possibly the variations are whether the stalk is "bent" or straight (and it seems that Mangusta had both, at least 8ma1076 and 8ma1074 are straight (at the 9:00 position compared to the steering wheel), 8ma1046 was 'bent" (so ending up at about the 10:00 position).

Price for the repros is healthy--about 800 euros....

I found one off Ebay UK for my Mangusta from a seller called "rutwilliam_48".  £100 / $125.

If I search that seller now it takes me to EverythingretroFord. They have a selection.  When I spoke to them about mine it seemed they were working through their inventory, apparently they bought up the NOS of a Ford Dealer so were unsure of makes / models so you have to ask them to measure etc, but mine was unused.  Maybe they now have a business site for it all.

From research I did it looks like the indicator / turn / flash and horn combo with silver end (they are also available new for a few 3 off Ebay UK) were Escort Mk1 or Capri Mk1.  Mine was completely missing so I had to have the cancel ring remade and one Capri item I initially bought from someone else wasn't correct so make sure you specify the diameter you need.

The Ford parts are becoming expensive especially early Escort where the Mexicos / Twin cams fetch big money.  Not Maserati or De Tomato expensive parts but getting that way.  This is link to this seller (no connection but they do seem to ship International if needed)

Cheers

BTW and slightly off topic, there is also an Early Capri Club in UK and guy has a personal stash, so if anyone needs the early umbrella handbrake assembly they might be able to help.

Should anyone have a different steering column dimension to mine, I have the slightly too small one I could measure and is now surplus to requirements. Car isn't with me so would have to go an measure, let me know by PM if interested

cheers

...the model for the switch is the "119SA", meaning that in addition to indicator it also has headlight control/flash, and lastly the horn switch on the end of the stalk, finally with 9 wires (3 for indicator, 4 for headlights (bright, low, flash) and then horn plus ground... . For something functional, this means that an MGB switch (esp, 1970-76) is exactly the right piece--very common, available even without a Lucas box.  MIE sells these as replacement for Maserati classic (Ghibli, etc) the stalk is 40mm shorter and the knob is square....

On my car, of course after spending a long hour soldering just the right wires, I found mechanically the bright/low latching mechanism was tired...So am either going to swap the stalk lever itself onto an NOS 119SA, or somehow migrate the knob...Its worth a little work to avoid spending $800 for a new repro...!
