Someone sent me a powerpoint slide show of how Canada welcomes home her sons that have been killed in combat. Very impressive and heart moving show of a country's gratitude and respect for it's soldiers who have made the greatest sacrifice. If anyone wants it or has webspace to post it for others to see, send me your email address and I'll send the file to you.

Thanks Dennis, These unfortunate events are truly amazing and have become quite touching. When a Canadian soldier dies in Afghanistan, they first touch Canadian soil at Canadian Forces Base Trenton. From there, a funeral procession leaves the base and heads to the Centre for Forensic Sciences in Toronto. Along the 100 mile stretch of Highway 401, at first a few but now people fill the overpasses to show their support, waving Canadian flags and signs to pay their respects to the fallen soldiers and their families.

Quick explanation (my neighbour is the military police criminal investigation unit): As Canada's military presence in Afganistan is not 'a war'. Every death is considered a 'murder' and must be investigated as such, so CIS officers are in Afganistan and must do investigations and interviews to document as if it were such. When our fallen soldiers get home (Military Aircraft lands at CFB Trenton) they must then go to the coroner (in Toronto) for an autopsy, before bodies can be released to families. That is why we have the 'funeral processions' A fine recognition to those who have given the greatest sacrifice. (Thanks to Myke H... even if he drives a GTO)

Hey Dennis, News last night said that President Obama lifted the ban on showing caskets. First step to get fellow policemen and ex-military to start US version of 'ighway of Heros'
