My 14 year old son and I are headed to JH Ranch on July 20, and have a day for "anything we want". We fly into Sacramento, then journey northward for about 4 hours on I-5.

So if you have a favorite car thing - museum, dealership, racetrack, whatever - to see, let me know. And if it's NOT car related, that's cool too, long as you like it, we'd love to hear about it.

(Georgie, if this needs to be moved to another sub forum, have at it!)

Thanks All!

Sounds like a very cool trip. My wife and I are involved with the camp ministries of Mount Hermon in the Santa Cruz mountains. They have an adventure camp called Kidder Creek, which is about 15 minutes from where you will be. I haven't been there yet, but I hear it's beautiful.

I just returned from a weekend of mountain biking at Northstar and Kirkwood in Lake Tahoe with my 15 year old son. I think he'll remember it for years to come; especially my bad crash that I still haven't recovered from - gotta remember (BEFORE I try stupid stuff like jumping off 5' high tree stumps) that my 43 year old body doesn't bounce back from injuries the way it did when I was in my 20's.

As far as things to do and see if you're flying into Sacramento...

California State Railroad Museum. Located in old downtown, this place is a MUST SEE if you're a railroad buff, or if your just a gearhead who likes transportation stuff. I had never considered locomotives as art before visiting this museum. Virtual tour linked from this page: http://www.sacramentocvb.org/press/things2do3.cfm?id=1707

Towe Auto Museum. There's a link to a virtual tour here: http://www.sacramentocvb.org/press/things2do3.cfm?id=665
I haven't been there yet, but plan to go the next time I'm up there.

Check out this link for more things to do in and around Sacramento: http://www.sacramentocvb.org/press/things2do.cfm Also, contact the folks from Capitol Panteras to see if they're having any meetings or events while you're there.

And for places North of Sacramento, Lassen would definitely be interesting. You can also go by Lake Shasta. Google them for specific info on what other activities are available. My daughter just spent a week with friends house boating on Lake Shasta.

Anyway, have a great time with your son.

Thanks for that! Great links and Shasta sounds superb. Garth, what a great 'mission' you're on! Hey, is that an XM radio antenna sticking out of your helmet... or a 911 direct feed to the Emergency Room?!? (Not smart to make fun before my old body attempts similar acts of age defiance!)

I'm half way considering going the WRONG WAY (Oh, like that's not the story of my life) to Danville and the BlackHawk Museum. Is that nuts or worth it? Cast your votes.

Sorry bout the miscommunication - we're flying in on the 20th, and don't have to be to JH Ranch 'til the 22nd, so the 21st is our 'free' day.

LF - TP 2511: That option looks intriguing, thanks for the invite! If we can make it, we'll be the LOSERS in a rented Mustang (tried to get a Shelby... good luck). Now I just need to find what city Coco's is in and MapQuest the route. ABOUT how many folks/cars do you think'll be there?

SIDE NOTE: Today I drove my Pantera out of the storage facility, under its own power, with fresh seat rollers, belts, super detailed interior, detailed wheels, engine, rebuilt carb, timing done and a good but not 'perfect' tune. IT WAS FANTASTIC! I so wish I'd have that ride in California.

Sorry about the divergent road ( I HIJACKED MY OWN THREAD! )but am still open to any tourist/fun spots you can name. Thanks.
