Chevy Anyone???

I would love to have my 600 hp 400 sbc in the Pantera, but it is too built for racing. I saw one with a 327 on ebay......at least the disrtibutor would finally be in the right place.

Mike Cook use to do this conversion in the 80s He is in California but I don't know how to contact him. Anyone else know?

I personally would advise against it. The value of your car, in my opinion, will decrease. Unless that is not a concern. Ford engines do seem to cost more to "hot rod", but I think in the long run, its worth it.

You would also have to change your name to 4NCHEVY

Hey never thought of the name and license plate problem! I was just tossing the idea around. I guess I'll leave it Ford powered. Wow, the "hate Email" that I received Good to see that there are true Pantera fans out there!

To me, a Chevy motor just doesn't look right in a Panters'a engine bay.

Wow! What a bees nest I poked with this Chevy conversion inquiry! Stirred up things here and on the Detomaso Archives board! I've decided to stay with the Ford engine whether it ends up being a Cleveland or a Windsor. I was considering the Chevy due to parts availability and prices here. The chevy also had easier potential for supercharging.

The very first time I drove my Pantera to a gas station, I pulled up behind an guy with an Model "T". He ask me what I was driving. I told him it was an old Ford, just like him!

First you may want to check with a lawyer. I know such conversions may be illegal in some states. You will also need hevier duty springs as Chebbies weigh more than Fords. You will also want to get a dog with bobbing head dash board ornament as a disclaimer so people can tell at a glance that it is no longer a REAL Pantera, but a corvair based kit car instead. I think the most expensive part of the conversion will be the mandatory 22" wheels and spinner hub caps. You may have to have them custome made. Of course you will need a hydraulic shock system to bounce your car up and down and those little blue led lights for under your car. Tassles hanging from the mirror are a good chebbie accesory too.

Just got back from hotlanta last week. This weekend I finaly finish cleaning out the garage. Then after Christmas I get to do my Pantera projects. Quite a long list this year.

Yehh too much, fumes too.... Big Thanksgivin' drag race 2 miles away... sorry... I drag the Chevrolet Nova...but i am tooo obsecced with the Pantera. to go do it...Dennis.. I' love a small block, or a big block...but you are right ..it would be a sacrilige..Just get George to build you a stroker....you will be alright.. LPB

A nova with a Ford motor would be just as bad. Maybe I am just too much of a redneck to think interbreeding is ok?????
