POR -15 makes a product called Glisten which is advertised to be a great, high gloss sealant. I seem to remember mixed results. One person thought it was great, another was very disappointed. I can't vouch for either. However, I do have a 1 pint kit, unused, available at a discount if you're interested in doing some experimentation.
When we make aluminum letters for exterior signs, we use powder coating. If you go that route, you need to make sure that ONLY the exterior of the case gets coated, and it does need to be baked for 15 minutes at 400 degrees (all approx.). The end result will look great and be very durable, although some solvents and fluids can still damage it. I think it is about the best you can do and should be much better than any hand-applied finish (although much more expensive too).
there a guy here locally in S. Cal who just did my valve covers & intake with clear coat-but it wasnt powder coated. I think it was some type of polyurthane- but not sure- here his # 805-376-1112 and make sure you ask for Allan and nobody else ( Allan is the Owner and the only 1 that know whats going on) tell Allan he did my stuff Mike V with the Pantera
