Coming to America, what Pantera related places to visit?

I am from Australia and visiting the USA to buy my first Pantera (I have started a discussion in the Wanted forum) and was wondering what must see places I need to visit? I will be going to the usual Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York. So far I have penciled in PI Motorsports, Hall Pantera and Precision Performance. What other places would be of interest for a would be Pantera owner?

Also not car related what would be some great food joints to visit? I have been watching "Man vs Food" for ideas but I have a big appetite so I will need more inspiration. Whatever is big, fatty and decadently delicious and best of all cheap!

Any advice anyone can give on visiting the land of the free would be great too. Can't wait!

In respect to food, I went to 50/50 burgers last week in Anaheim Hills (Southern CA) and it was just unbelievable. I never thought I would find a burger that beat out In & Out burger, but this one did it hands down. 50% beef/50% bacon...Damn! Vampire dip is unreal too! Friendly customer service as well, and a few low cut T-shirts on the female waitresses which always help stimulate the appetite. You probably would be very happy visiting one of the Pantera vendors like Hall or Wilkinson in California, but you also definitely would like to see, and not necessarily in this order 1) Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC 2) Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, MI 3) Indianapolis Motor Speedway (and museum) in Indi.

The Shelby Museum in Colorado is a good one too.

Those 50/50 burgers look absolutely fattening, which is right up my alley. Peterson museum is already on the cards as is a visit to Hall pantera(how could I not). Unfortunately only in LA, Vegas and NY so no smithsonian or Ford museum.

Is there any local hangouts for Panteras or at least hot rods in general? Any 60's style diners where they deliver the meals around the car park on roller skates?

While in NYC, one of my absolutely favorite cheap places to eat is John's Pizzaria on 44th Street -- it's just west of Times Square. The pizza and salad there is second to none -- although I'll probably get a lot of hate email from saying this. At any rate, one of the best pizzarias ever -- I highly recommend it.

While in L.A., you've got to get to Hall & Wilkinson, which are very close to each other. Within walking distance really. Just be warned that Wilkinson is closed on Mondays. You also need to go see Jerry at PI Motorsports. I see he has not updated his for sale cars since early November, but he should have some nice gear to look at in one place. Wilkinson and Hall will not have cars for sale at their locations -- at least they haven't for some time. They may know of good cars, so it would be worth your while to call them and ask them before you come if you are still looking. They may have some good ideas. I would go to the other places you mentioned as well -- you'll be busy going to all of these places; they are rather far apart so get a good lunch spot figured out. Use TripAdvisor.com to hone in on something that you would like to chow on. I've used it everywhere I go and have not gotten burned yet.

There are SO many places to visit when You're there. God, I love that country, and especially the westcoast for it's nature and all the great National Parks.

Like ItalFord mentioned, the Petersen Automuseum in L.A. is always worth a visit. And NHRA in Pomona too. In Vegas there is this museum: http://www.autocollections.com/
You don't wanna miss that one - It's fantastic !
While in Vegas, there is also the Shelby Museum, and when You're done visiting museums, You can go the Fremont Street and have fun for the night. I love Fremont Street !

Do Yourself a favor, if You're driving from L.A. to Vegas, and don't drive on the Freeway if You can avoid it. Take Your time and and enjoy the Route 66 (Or what's left of it) from Barstow to Needles. From Needles go to Oatman and the to Kingman and that way to Vegas. It's a a great trip.

Have fun - You'll love it !!

I think I will give autocollections a miss as I think I will leave the US with two cars instead of just a Pantera!! Shelby museum will definitely worth a look though, hopefully there won't be any cars there for me to buy.

Freemont st. looks interesting, I can't believe I have not heard of it before. I think I am going to love the US even though I am not a very good traveler. I really can't wait.

Now, there's no special attractions here

Just an office with a view of the Pacific, plus my guests are treated to nearby steak & seafood, good drinks, a gift to commemorate your visit, and stories about the Pantera ...

Too bad you can't route your flight through Detroit for a few hours of layover. I would consider selling one of my Panteras; you can see the pictures on this forum under 'specific cars photo albums'. It is #4429, 1972-L, silver, 29k miles, updates to cooling, mirrors, valve covers, but no other mods. I'm not far from the airport, and if you are here on a Saturday, join us on Woodward Ave, at AutoZone bookstore. Every Sat, 8am. All car guys, all automotive books, and many people from the car companies. You could look on YouTube for the bookstore and see my Pantera driving, and a Mangusta that always comes there, etc. Take care.

That sounds like a mighty good deal. I will try to make some time to make it out that way and I hope you don't mind if my wife tags along? We could both use an education in Panteras and we both love our seafood!!

Unfortunately I don't think I have left enough time to make it out your way which is a shame as your cat looks to be something I would like.

Hope to meet you when you come out! I live very close to Cowboy from Hell and would join you for dinner. I can tell you lots of other great places to eat and visit (Top of the Santa Monica Mountains overlooking the ocean and islands and then down to Neptunes' Net in northern Malibu for some food and beer while watching the surfers and bikers at sunset - comes to mind), but since you mentioned you have a big appetite you might consider this LA landmark:

Well what a week has it been, I am going to need a holiday (sorry "Vacation") to get over my holiday. I am so sick of eating!!! How do you guys do it! The food here is amazingly tasty and the portions are even more amazing. I love the burgers, the people are so friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The traffic is INSANE here in LA and most days we were doing around two hours a day driving. I managed to get to speak to the guys at PI motorsports and they were so happy to show me around and I really enjoyed my visit there. I also popped into Hall and they were also very accommodating and showed me around their museum. Did I mention how friendly the people were?

It has been so busy with most nights we do not return to our hotel until after 10pm. I am sorry but this is our last day here and I cannot make it out to Ventura which is more than a little dissapointing. It just takes so much time to get around and once you do the tourist thing there is barely time to sleep. I have not even visited any auto parts stores to check out the goodies for our Mustangs.

Well off to Vegas today to renew our wedding vows in the presence of The King and no doubt eat some more!!

Well in many places you can clearly see that the food is too good and too plentiful. You can also see that people eat here almost everyday? Big Grin

When you hear emergency sirens make sure that you pull to the side of the road. It's an indication that the donuts at Dunkin are fresh and that cops assignment is to get them before they get cold.

Friendly in LA, really? Huh? They must think you are related to Mel Gibson with your accent and all? Roll Eyes

Wait till u get to NY. There is a joke here that says, "Columbus thought he had discovered India because he stopped into a 'candy store' on Amsterdam Avenue." Wink

People talk to you here but they will just look emotionless and suspiciously at you as if they are involved in a game of stud poker. Best if you try not to make eye contact ok? roll on floor

I must say you can see that many Californians partake in regular and plentiful meals though I must say that I fit right in. I think I have put on at least 10 lbs in one week and I am being totally serious. Big Grin Whenever we saw the "P-oh-lice" they had someone pulled over and that was very regularly, all they seemed to be doing was busting someone's chops! Mind you they didn't bust the drunk driver we followed on the freeway, worst I have seen since I saw a drunk driver loose it and slam into a power pole. How this guy on the freeway didn't kill himself is beyond me. I didn't know who I should call so we kind of watched and waited for them to hit a barrier but alas it wasn't to be. So we waited for the freeway to give us a few extra lanes to get around them so we could move on. With a little luck they made it somewhere without killing someone.

After LA we had a whirlwind visit to Vegas. I must say I liked Fremont St. where I managed to pick up a Pantera 1/18 Scale diecast from "The Toy Shack" and there was less hustle than on the strip. There were a few free bands playing and the drinks were cheaper too! Although I must say I was not a huge fan of Vegas, it is geared to take all your money (I'm not talking gambling either) and the vast majority of products and services offered can be found anywhere in the world and cheaper. However there are not many places you get to shoot a AK47 and that was an absolute blast. Wish I had a little more time there to really get a feel for it and maybe I would have a better opinion.

As fo NY so far we have really loved it. The people have been really friendly (I know it is not what you were expecting?). We even had a gentleman (his accent sounded local) ask if he could help us with directions when he saw us looking lost staring at a map. Even had another you woman give us directions and she actually didn't look too afraid. The taxi driver from the airport I didn't trust as far as I could throw him, I'm sure we went past the same Marriot hotel twice. But hey, that's something that can be said for taxi drivers where ever you may be. I do have one question about the squirels in Central Park. Do the locals think of them as ground pigeons? You know like pests? I kinda got that feeling because when we saw the first one we were like, awwwwwww and taking photos. By about the time we saw the 50th we were over it. Confused And why do the drivers need to honk their horns? You can see the thousand cars in front of you, honking your goddam horn aint gonna make em move any faster!

I managed to hit Pinks hot dog shop in Vegas (Not sure if it is the same franchise) and had a strip dog and it was f#$@#g awesome. I don't know if it was the fact that I had a few too many drinks or not but damn it was good.

We did Tommy's burger on the way to Vegas. I thought it a little strange to have chilli on a tripple cheese burger being that do you really need more meat! However another amazingly delicious exercise in gut busting fun. I really needed a nap after that one.

Squirrels and pigeons are a protected species in NYC.

Near as I can figure, you honk your horn in NYC if you are horny. Lots of horny people there. An extremely large number of which are extremely unattractive and very repulsive

So when you say the squirrels are protective I probably should not have taken that one home in my suitcase? Next you're going to say I should have left him breathing holes!?

Yes, there were quite a few of those unattractive folk honking their horns, particularly the ones driving taxis. Even saw a lady pedestrian giving a police officer on traffic duty a serve because he wasn't quick enough about directing her to walk or not! She sure must have been in a hurry.
