Still messing with this A/C on various days. I pulled off the condenser last night and noticed that the lower fins had indentions where the rear of the ZF touches it. You can actually see where they've been mashed in. It also seems that the whole fan-condensor assembly doesn't allow room for adjustment as far as moving it up. It was mounted all the way up. I'm sure something isn't right here. Can anyone give any feedback. I bought this 71' about 4 months ago and don't have any history on it. Any input?

First, this souldn't be possible 'cause the fins should not be exposed. On all Panteras, there was a sheet metal shroud completely covering the condenser, that also mounted an electric fan. So I'm not real sure you have a stock condenser. Second, the condenser shroud cleared the ZF by over 2"; Lloyd Butfoy's 6-speed adaption to the ZF increases the transaxle length by 2-1/2" and requires the AC shroud assembly to have a slight dent but never touches the actual fins. So I suspect that either you have a huge non-stock condenser or someone has seriously messed with this car. Need photos to clarify or a knowlegable expert to actually SEE the machine.
After taking your insight on this, I took a closer look at the whole thing and lined everything up. And yes, it appears that someone tried to save a buck and cram an oversized aftermarket condenser in that area. Can't say that I blame them, but I'm just going to order a 4-row and do this thing right. Thanks!!
Actually, the "aftermarket" condenser- thing isn't a real bad idea, except that the human-space inside the Pantera is pretty small. So an oversized condenser isn't called for. My Pantera came with no AC at all, so I found a Toyota pickup condenser that is the same dimiensions as the stock unit except it is aluminum, 2-pass, 1/4 the wt of stock, fits Pantera hoses and works just fine. I've had it in back for years, and currently in front. Mini-pickups are about the same cabin-volume as sports cars (maybe a little bigger).
