Continuing the gearhead tradition

Awesome Mopar! Would that be Sassy Grass Green by any chance? What motor does it have? 4 speed or 727 auto? Isn't it amazing how low quality the interiors are on these things -- I mean compared to stuff today? It always boggles my mind.

I am sure your son will love it -- I hope the Mopar gods are good to him and never leave him stranded...... You'll have to search around on the Moparts site to check out what people are doing to what -- heck you probably already are a Mopar guy with the Jeep in the background.....

That's great Joules! Did you have to drag him away from all the imports, or is he really a Detroit iron kind of kid? Not many of them around anymore. Must be the good example you've set.

Actually the opposite, I tried to convince him that he needed a practical first car, a newer model that he could jump in and drive. He said no way, he wanted a classic, so I gave him a budget and said okay but no projects, has to be something that someone has already restored and imediately driveable.

We started out looking at Mustangs but he liked fastbacks and only coupe's were within the budget. So he started researching and suddenly Mustangs were second to Charger's, but for the most part Charger's are harder to find and more expensive than Mustangs! We struck lucky finding this one only 150 miles away.

It's a '72 Super Bee Clone in sub-lime, with a 318CI (bored to 340) auto. Ideal really, looks the part, but not so much power my wife has to lay awake at night. BTW that's her Jeep, she's the practical one

My first car was a 340 'Cuda and you'd be amazed what a small block Mopar can do.

That is a great car. I hope it makes him sublimely happy. So awesome to have the car you want at that age. Well, any age really. :-)

Yes, indeed. In 1970, I bought a 1970 'Cuda AAR with the 340 Six Barrel (Six Pack is the Dodge term for three 2-bbl carburetors). My brother and I still talk about how quick fast that car was right off the showroom. It's one of the few cars I've owned that I wish I had kept.

Julian, are you aware that you have passed on to your son a very expensive vice, commonly known as 'car collecting'? Iam guilty as charge. My 18 year old daughter has been to alot of car shows with me, besides the P car,she wants a 1970 Z28. The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Congrats to your son . He has a caring DAD. Chuck

Now the challenge is insurance.....

Our daily driver insurer tell me they will only cover liability on a vehicle this age. I don't really want to take all the risk of damage and theft etc. on my own back. Even if I could get comp/collision in the event of an accident they are just as likely to say market value is something like $500, so I think an agreed value would be the best option.

The current insurer recommended one of the Classic Insurers, but a) this will be more a daily driver and more importantly b) he's only 16 and the classic policies require all drivers to be at least 25 yrs old and c) they also require for each licensed driver to have a daily driver other than the classic.

So anyone have experience or aware of an insurer offering agreed value policies on a daily driver?
