I have a Dash 1 trans (could be 1.5) in my early 71. Just got it all together and could not get the clutch to allow me to shift into first gear with the car running. I checked to be sure it was not the slave or clutch master cyl. Had the standard amount of throw, but I could feel that it was not engauging the clutch diaphragm.
I pulled the trans axle and feel that maybe I have the wrong throw out bearing.
There is a lot of slop on the sleeve that covers the out put shaft, and just does not seem to fit right.
The numbers on the throw out bearing are FM Mex (Federal Mogal Mexico) 1825 - 12 then DB.
I believe the clutch is a Centerforce diaphragm type, see pics.
Any idea if I should be using a different throw out bearing?

The original T/O bearing for the dash 1 was an Aetna A-3523, which has been replaced by A-2311-1. This crosses over to a Federal Mogul 1625. All of these numbers work for the dash 1 and the dash 2 when using a three finger pressure plate.

I don't know if Centerforce uses a different bearing, but I do know that there needs to be a shim behind the T/O bearing when using a Centerforce diaphragm type pressure plate.

The carrier hub for the T/O bearing should be a close fit to the bearing retainer's snout.

Also, that Federal Mogul (Mexico) bearing was bad news for me. In just 1500 miles, it spewed a lot of grease.

I sent pics to Jerry at PI Motorsports. He said I need a hub adaptor or adjustable hub and new T/O bearing.
He also suggested getting rid of the Diaphragm clutch and go for a 3 finger type.
I ordered the adjustable hub and new T/O bearing, but am holding on a new clutch package.
I have built several panteras using diaphragm clutches and never had problems.
What are your thoughts.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
