Dash/Marker Lighting

I had a problem where the heater cable touched the positive light switch electrical terminal. Since, I have no marker/dash light on the first throw of switch.(Fuses Good) I took the marker/dash (brown) lead off the switch to test, and applied a direct hot lead to the marker line and still have no marker/dash lights.(?) However I have marker/dash lights when connected back to switch and the switch is on second/headlight throw? Very confusing??? Grounding problem??? Relay???
